6/4/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 4. June 2010 19:52

Do you remember my post from the other day about pregnant women sunbathing?  When I went online to research why that's a problem it said that being overheated can cause possible brain damage or spinal cord issues in the baby.  Ok, obviously I'm never going on the internet while I'm pregnant again.  Yes, I need to be informed but I also need to be realistic.  I'm not going to spend the entire summer afraid to go swimming or plant flowers because I'm going to "cook" the baby.  We go on vacation in two weeks down south and I'm not going to live in fear throughout the whole trip that the warm weather will cause my baby to be special needs.  I have to look at it like this:  I still need to live/enjoy my life and that means spending time outdoors, plus what about all those women that live in places such as Jamaica or the Carribean?  It's scorching down there, they still have babies, and I'm sure they spent the duration of their pregnancy in some kind of water.  In fact, what about all the pregnant mom's during the summer that don't have air conditioning?  I just need to be smart about being out in the sun which means wearing a hat, staying cool in the water or in the shade, and wearing sunscreen!  Opinions?
